Edinburgh-born Ritchie was signed by Alan Dicks in July 1969, arriving at the same time as Gerry Gow.
He played a key role in the club's rise, culminating in 1976 when they were promoted to the top flight.
Ritchie is one of only five players to make 500-plus appearances for the club, thanks to a second spell at Ashton Gate.
He left initially in 1981 to join Sunderland in a deal woth £180,000, before being loaned out to Carlisle United.
After the club's financial collapse in 1982 after successive relegations, Ritchie returned under the guidance of Terry Cooper for a further two seasons.
He left for a second time in December 1984, joining Yeovil Town - then managed by his former team-mate Gow in the Southern League.
