Born in Cardiff, Carr played semi-professionally in the Welsh pyramid before deciding to focus on a career in professional football as a fitness coach.
Carr has previously worked at Swansea City and Cardiff City and has been working at Ashton Gate since 2013. He holds a MSc in Sports Coaching Science, a UEFA A licence at both youth and senior level and is currently undertaking his PhD where he is conducting research into training periodisation and subsequent physical and technical performance in matches.
Rhys works closely with the head coach and assistant head coaches in planning and delivering training with the first team squad aiming to support the coaches by combining his academic sports science background and his applied coaching background.
Alongside this, Carr manages the performance staff at the club including strength and conditioning coaches, sport scientists and nutritionists among others in an attempt to maintain players fitness levels and avoid injuries.
