Smith is a central midfielder who rose through the Academy ranks at Norwich City.

He made his debut for the Canaries in April 2009 and was a regular figure for Norwich in their 2009/10 title-winning League One campaign.

The Norwich whirlwind continued the following season as they stormed to another promotion, this time as Championship runners-up.

First team chances in the Premier League were fleeting for Smith, who benefited from regular football during loan spells at Barnsley, Yeovil Town and Oldham Athletic.

The Latics were so impressed they turned the loan deal permanent in the summer of 2013 and he was a mainstay for Lee Johnson’s team.

Smith became a key figure in City’s promotion-winning campaign and was named in the 2014/15 PFA Team of the Year.

The following season he was reunited with former boss Johnson at Ashton Gate and remains one of City's most consistent performers.
