Baker had been with Villa since the age of 13, rising through the club’s Academy to make the first team squad in 2008.

He spent time on loan at Lincoln City and Millwall, making his first start for Villa in between the two temporary moves in January 2011 against Wigan Athletic.

On September 1st 2015, Baker joined newly-promoted City on loan for the 2015/16 season and was a regular in the team.
After a season back at Villa, again playing regularly, Baker moved to Ashton Gate - permanently this time - for an undisclosed fee, penning a four-year deal.

He scored on his second debut, against Plymouth Argyle, as part of the run to the semi-finals of the 2017/18 Carabao Cup. He would scored his first goal for the club since rejoining in their 3-3 draw at Preston North End in September 2019.

Baker signed a new two-year contract in June 2021.

Baker represented England at under-19, under-20 and under-21 level earlier in his career. 

The 30-year-old has made just shy of 150 appearances for City, including 15 appearances in the current season (2021/22).
