Lee Johnson admits he could include a youngster or two in the squad for Sunday’s season finale against Birmingham City (kick-off midday).
With Sky Bet Championship safety now assured, Johnson could include the likes of Shawn McCoulsky and Zak Vyner in the matchday squad against the Blues.
It’s something he did last season, handing outings to Vyner and George Dowling for the final two matches of the 2015/16 campaign.
“One or two probably deserve a chance,” he told Bristol City Player HD. “We’ve got some fantastic young players at the club.
“Shawn has scored 31 goals this season, Zak had a run out last season and has gone on to play league football this season at Accrington and with us, and then you’ve got Lloyd Kelly and Jonny Smith, who have been in good form.
“That’s just to name a few, there are others. There’s the opportunity to bring them in on Sunday, if we see fit.”
Johnson remains determined to win the game, offering City the chance to finish 15th in the Championship table if other results go their way.
“We want progression,” he added. “We’ve already achieved a better points tally than last season, we want to score more goals, concede less goals and finish as high as we can.
“Birmingham are a strong outfit and it won’t be easy; it never is in the Championship.”
