Wright pleased with club’s progression

Bailey Wright admits there was a sense of frustration inside the dressing room after the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

City’s captain believes there were plenty of positives to take from the televised clash, but was disappointed with how quickly Jamie Paterson’s opener was cancelled out by Josh Onomah’s deflected strike.

However, Wright says the frustration in not securing three points against Steve Bruce’s big-spending side is evidence of how far the club has progressed.

"There are a lot of positives to take from the game,” he told the club’s in-house TV channel.

"We made it difficult for them coming here and the way we play football can wear teams down.

"Their goal had a bit of luck to it and we were the better side, but that is football.

“It’s frustrating but it was a deflection and there was nothing Frankie (Fielding) could have done about it.

“They are extremely experienced and have a lot of money in their squad. We limited them to few chances; we were solid and compact and played our football.

“We are a club heading in the right direction. We have unbelievable support and you can really feel it when you’re out there. Bristol is a great city and it is calling out for us to progress.”

INTERNATIONAL DUTY FOR SKIPPER

City now have two weeks away from competitive action due to the international break, and while the rest of his team-mates will be working hard on the training ground, Wright will be involved in two crucial World Cup qualifiers for Australia.

“Our first game is against Japan and from there we will return to Melbourne to face Thailand in our last qualifier,” he added.

“We will be looking for two good wins which will ensure we qualify for Russia – that would be a dream come true.

“To reach Russia would be incredible and to know it is in our hands is something to look forward to.”
