Joe Williams can’t wait to get back out and hit form in front of City’s fans.
The midfielder came off the bench in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool and in doing so he got the opportunity to play in front of Robins supporters for the first time since his move to BS3 a year ago.
He came off the bench in the 77th minute, replacing young Alex Scott, and now Williams is looking forward to pushing on as he puts last season’s injury troubles behind him.
“It was different wasn’t it?!” he said, reflecting on Saturday’s occasion as City kicked off their 2021/22 campaign. “It’s been such a long time, I’m sure the fans were buzzing to get back, we were buzzing to see them. It was my first time in front of them and I’m looking forward to plenty more.
“Everyone knows it was frustrating for me last season so I’m buzzing to get going. I missed the first couple of weeks of pre-season so I’ve had a bit of catching up to do but I’m started to feeling really good and I’m looking forward to getting my form back to where it was.”
Williams could feature against Forest Green Rovers, when the Robins travel to the Fully Charge New Lawn on Tuesday, August 10th (7.45pm KO). It’s Round One in the Carabao Cup, with City taking a full away crowd to Gloucestershire.
“I’ve seen it’s sold out and that’s brilliant,” continued Williams. “Every time I’ve been to Ashton Gate or they’ve come away to teams I’ve played for, they’ve always travelled in decent numbers, they’re always loud and a good group of fans. For the lads, it gives them that extra boost.”
The match is sold out to away fans, with tickets on sale to home supporters on the gate only.
City supporters overseas are urged to purchase a Live Audio pass via Robins TV in order to follow the game on Tuesday night.
