Bobby Reid says City are ready for the challenge of in-form Brighton & Hove Albion at Ashton Gate tomorrow (5.30pm).
The Seagulls come to BS3 on the back of a nine-match unbeaten run in the Sky Bet Championship.
But the midfielder insists City have what it takes to unpick the division’s tightest defence in front of the Sky TV cameras.
Reid told Bristol City Player HD: “We’re just taking things game by game. I think we deserve to be up there in the play-off zone at present.
“Tomorrow will be a tough test for us. Brighton were in the play-offs last season and are on a good run at the moment.
“We were travelling back from Barnsley last weekend and saw the goals from their 5-0 win over Norwich City. There were a few defensive mistakes in there; they didn’t really carve Norwich open as such.
“We know they’re a good team but we’re ready for them.”
The 23-year-old is City’s longest-serving player and one of a few members of the current squad who played with Sam Baldock between 2012 and 2014.
Asked if he was looking forward to seeing his former skipper again, Reid grinned: “Yes and no!
“He’s a great player who is sharp and scores lots of goals, so we have to be alert to him. It will be nice to catch up with him though.”
Reid has been involved in every game he has been available for this season, scoring four goals in the process.
He added: “I’m buzzing with the start to the season I’ve made, as well as how the team have done.
“The aim is to carry that on now. I want to play as many games as possible and affect the game.
“The gaffer has shown faith in me and it’s important for me to repay that.
“I’ve been working hard behind the scenes, mentally as well, to improve my game. Those extra percentages can only help the team.”
Tickets for the game against Brighton can still be purchased online and will also be available on the day. Alternatively, call 0117 963 0600.
