‘We’re relishing the challenge’ - Oxtoby

Tanya Oxtoby says her players are fully focussed on starting 2019 in the best possible way.

City Women’s Manager has urged her players to play without pressure when they face the Manchester City - who currently sit second in the Women’s Super League - at the SGS College Stoke Gifford Stadium on Sunday.

Here’s what Oxtoby had to say ahead of the game:

“We’ve had a great start to the season, one that’s exceeded expectation but that’s been down to the hard work that everyone had been putting in on and off the field at the club.

“It’s been good for the squad to have a break and come back to the second half of the season rested and recharged ahead of what will be a tough game against Manchester City.

“These are the games you want to be a part of as a player, you want to test yourself against the best in the league and the girls will have to be confident in themselves that they can go out there and get a result.

“Game by game we have been getting better, learning more about ourselves and improving with, and without the ball which should hopefully translate into more results.

“We’re looking for an all-round performance this weekend, we want to make sure that we are solid defensively but when we do have the ball we want to use it and test Man City.

“There isn’t as much pressure on us as there is for them, we have picked up result against them previously so the group know they have the ability to compete with them, now it’s just about going out on to the pitch and playing the way we know we can.”

Tickets for Bristol City Women's Women's Super League fixture against Manchester City are available on the gate at the SGS College Stoke Gifford Stadium from 1:30pm on Sunday.
