Fresh from scoring his first City goal, Marley Watkins has reflected on the positive environment at the club.
The forward says the team are oozing confidence as they prepare to take on Sheffield United, off the back of three consecutive wins, but he is wary City have “got to be up for it” tomorrow (September 15th).
Watkins told bcfc.co.uk: “The team are really focused. Obviously we had a little break, a time to rest up, reflect on what we need to improve, what we’ve done well and we’re raring to go and there’s a great atmosphere and spirit in the camp.
“We’re all confident going into Saturday’s game against Sheffield United (3pm kick-off) but we don’t want to rest on our laurels.”
Both sides head to BS3 in good form with the Blades most recently beating Aston Villa 4-1, while City beat Blackburn Rovers by the same scoreline, two weeks ago.
Watkins scored to restore City’s lead that day, after Josh Brownhill’s equalising free kick. Famara Diedhiou and Marlon Pack both struck in the second half to ensure the win.
“It was great to score my first Bristol City goal, it’s always nice to get off the mark – there’s no better feeling!” Watkins said.
“Every footballer needs a run of games to get up to speed and to show what you can do, especially in a new team when you’re learning new patterns of play but we’ve got three wins on the bounce so it’s been good.”
He added: “We know we’ve got to be up for it tomorrow, win the right to play, obviously win the battles first and foremost and they’re on a good run of form as well so it will be a tough game.
“We just need to be at our best and I am sure we can deliver the goods.”
