'We need to keep it going' - Mäenpää

Niki Mäenpää emphasised the importance of momentum as Bristol City made it five games unbeaten after a 1-1 draw with Derby County.

A string of saves from Mäenpää stopped the Rams from taking the lead, ensuring Lee Johnson’s side travelled home with a point in the bag.

He said: “I think both teams had really good chances all game, so I’d say it’s a fair result.

“We’ve played five games without being beaten so now we just need to keep it going.”

While Mäenpää kept Frank Lampard’s side at bay, the combination of Scott Carson and the woodwork denied City from adding a second, after Jamie Paterson had opened the scoring.

“As a team we were really solid, we were defending really well and we created a lot of chances.

“We just need to be a little bit more clinical.

“We scored our goal and we could’ve scored a couple more but not today, we need to keep on going.”

Mäenpää believes that City’s recent performances give them confidence going into back-to-back home games with Brentford and Rotherham United.

The keeper continued: “On Boxing Day we need to try and improve our home record.

“The last two games we’ve played against two good oppositions, so it’s absolutely a confidence booster.”
