‘We’ll go after teams to win games’ - Holden

Dean Holden is determined his players will “go after teams to win games” after City recorded a third successive victory.

The Robins brought down the Owls with goals from Tommy Rowe and Jamie Paterson to round off their super September start in style.

Head Coach Holden told Robins TV: “Three from three is excellent but it’s very early in the season still. We threw ourselves in front of them and you’ve got to do that to get a clean sheet and Bents (Dan Bentley) was behind that as well.

“We know how many clean sheets we are aiming for this season but at the same time it’s not about just sitting in, it’s about going after teams and trying to win games but keep clean sheets as well.

“It was never going to be easy today with the way Sheffield Wednesday play and with the predicament they find themselves in (12-point deduction). You have to give them respect for the way they have started the season.

“I thought the first half was even and they probably had the better of the chances if I’m being honest. We tweaked one or two things around at half-time and in the second half we were so much better with the ball at our feet.”

Rowe was well-placed to finish off another flowing team move on the hour before Paterson’s injury-time strike.

Holden added: “It was a great finish from Pato and the same for the first goal with Chris Martin’s awareness to nod it down for Tommy. He did his best to miss…but it was a good finish in fairness!”

In an increasingly physical match City held their own and Holden added: “We had to scrap at times which we do in every game. Jack Hunt has a nasty gash on his ankle against his old club but I’m sure he’ll be fine and Sess (Steven Sessengon) came on and slotted in nicely. All the subs have come off the bench and made an impact in every game so far. We managed the game towards the end and saw it out.”

City return to league action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (October 3rd, 3pm KO), with the match exclusively available to stream on Robins TV.

Holden reflected: “Forest haven’t had a great start to the season so that’s going to be a challenge for us, especially up at the City Ground. We would rather have been in the Carabao Cup but that is probably the first time since the early part of pre-season where we have a full week to work on a few things because there is still loads to work on.”
