'We have learnt from last season' - McAllister

Jamie McAllister is relishing City's good form in both the league and cup.

On a 12 game unbeaten streak, City kick-off February against Swansea City, themselves unbeaten in seven matches.

And with City competing in both the Sky Bet Championship and Emirates FA Cup, there will be opportunities for the whole squad to play their part as McAllister says the club has learnt lessons from last season.

The assistant head coach said: "It’s been a really good run with 12 unbeaten and six wins in a row from all competitions. It shows we’ve been very consistent and the lads are in a very good place at the moment.

"We go through the same processes in training, concentrate on the basics, what we do well and we have done that excellently.  We’ve kept clean sheets, won games by the odd goal which shows how tight those fine margins in the Sky Bet Championship are. We have shown the quality in possession, resilience in defending and how hard we are to beat and break down.

"We’re competing on two fronts in the league and FA Cup but that’s brilliant, you want to be in all competitions for as long as possible. We learnt a lot from last season’s cup run and we have competition for places across the pitch.

"We have at least two players in each position who are fighting for the jersey and that’s brilliant. We have been able to rotate, looking at different things and that has worked well.  The lads have been able to enjoy game time and we are seeing the injured lads come back as well."

A win at Ashton Gate on Saturday would add extra daylight between Lee Johnson's Robins and Graham Potter's Swans, who are separated by just three points.

McAllister said: "Swansea has already been a big rivalry, theres the Welsh-English element to it as well. They have a new manager who has got them playing well in a certain style. Both teams are in a great place, in great form and it should be an excellent game in front of a big crowd at Ashton Gate.

"It’s a proper derby game and the lads are relishing that on Saturday."
