‘We can bounce back with a better performance’ – Mariappa

Defender Adrian Mariappa says the players know they can perform to a higher level and bounce back this week.

City host Millwall on Tuesday night (December 15th, 7.45pm KO), live on Robins TV, just three days after the 2-0 defeat at Rotherham United.

City are still just four points off the top two ahead of their match with Gary Rowett’s side, who – similar to Rotherham prior to Saturday’s result – are enduring a winless run.

With Dean Holden’s side in seventh, just four points off the top two and one point off the play-offs, Mariapa sees it as a “good position” adding “now we need to stay focused and bounce back from the weekend.”

Mariappa told Robins TV: “It’s a tough league because every single game throws up different problems: you’re playing teams with different styles of play, you have to adjust to that and adjust the squad accordingly.

“A couple of wins or bad results and you see big fluctuations but staying in that mix is very important and we’ve had good results of late. Obviously, we want to bounce back after a performance that was below our standard and get back to winning ways.”

Mariappa was a second-half substitute in the trip to Yorkshire at the weekend when he made his fourth appearance - two starts, two off the bench to date - since joining the club in November.

The centre-back, who can also cover right-back, brings experience to squad and he hopes to make more of an impact with more game time during his time with City.

Reflecting on his short time in BS3 so far, Mariappa said: “I’m really enjoying it. I’ve settled in well and I’ve openly been with the team barely three weeks but it feels longer! The lads have been brilliant, all the staff and I’m really enjoying it.

“I’d heard so much good stuff about the squad so I knew I wouldn’t walk into the team. I’ve tried to prepare as best as I could fitness-wise, I’m glad to get some minutes on the pitch and I’m pushing for more starts.”

Robins TV matchday passes for City versus Millwall are now available to purchase. The stream includes a pre-match show starting at 7.15pm, analysis, multi-camera replays and in-game commentary with punditry from Andreas Weimann.
