We are learning all the time - Johnson

Head coach Lee Johnson reflected positively on City’s opening game of their pre-season Spanish tour.

A 90th-minute headed equaliser from Real Balopédica Linense substitute Carrasco, following Ahmed’s strike 15 minutes from time, cancelled out a Famara Diédhiou brace.

Johnson, who made seven changes from the side that started against Shrewsbury Town four days earlier, told BCTV: “At this stage of the season it’s not about wins and losses. It was a good game, a bit feisty and you don’t normally get those in pre-season.

“I thought for 50 or 60 minutes it was excellent – there was some good passing patterns and we should have scored more early.”

A few City chants rang around the Estadio Municipal de La Línea de la Concepción nestled below the Rock of Gibraltar and the City boss added: “It was nice, there was a good atmosphere and the stadium has got character.

"They (Linense) were sparky and organised and it was difficult to get through them because of their energy and their work rate but eventually we did.

“There was a lot of disruption in the second half – a couple of lively challenges and off the ball incidents from both teams – but as a day’s work, including this morning’s training session, I’m quite pleased with it.

“We’ve got two or three 90 minutes out of key players which is important and we are learning all the time, particularly about the young players and the new signings, and how they deal with pressure and different environments.”

City will continue their pre-season preparations when they face Rayo Vallecano at Marbella Football Centre on Saturday (July 24th, 8pm).
