Tanya Oxtoby was pleased her side picked up their first win of the season in a comprehensive 4-0 FA Continental Cup victory over London Bees.
Two goals in two minutes got the hosts off to the ideal start as Jemma Purfield low cross was turned in by a London Bees defender, before Chloe Logarzo headed home Purfield’s pinpoint diagonal ball.
City controlled the remainder of the game, and put the tie to bed late in the second half with another quickfire double, this time from Ebony Salmon and Charlie Wellings.
“We started a little bit slow out the blocks even though we scored two goals early on,” said Oxtoby.
“Our ball movement wasn’t quite what we wanted, and were got drawn into some transition, which wasn’t quite what we were after.
“The second half was much better”, she added, “we controlled the ball and pleased we went on to get the result whilst coming away with no injuries."
“ I think we have to do a bit more to protect the players given we've now started midweek games, and we didn’t get that tonight, but overall happy to come away with no injuries and a win.
“We’ve got great options within the squad and we wanted to use this game to rotate a little. I’m glad the substitutes made an impact when they went on, because that’s what we want them to do.”
City youngster, Naomi Layzell made her first team debut after joining the club this summer and the boss was happy with her performance off the bench.
“Naomi has been a real find for us in pre-season. She played all our pre-season games and she’s still currently studying, so we have to manage that aspect but it’s great to be able to give her the opportunity to make her debut tonight.”
Oxtoby’s team return to Twerton Park for a second time this week as they take on newly-promoted Aston Villa on Sunday, October 11th at 2pm.
