Marley Watkins' first goal for the club proved to be the decisive strike as City swept Blackburn Rovers aside at Ashton Gate.
With the scores poised at 1-1 at half-time, the Wales forward pounced to give City a 2-1 lead en route to their 4-1 demolition of Rovers on Sunday afternoon.
It was his first goal in City colours, following his summer move from Norwich City.
"I’m over the moon," he told BCTV.
"It is good to get off the mark. The fans were great and we repaid them with a great win."
Rovers had taken the lead through Charlie Mulgrew but Josh Brownhill equalised with a well-struck free kick, before Matty Taylor's chested assist set up Watkins' strike. Famara Diédhiou then came off the bench to score on his first appearance of the season, before Marlon Pack's looping header made it 4-1 on the day.
Watkins added: "I felt we showed great character. I thought once we got over the bump, after we panicked once they scored and Browny got a great free kick.
"We dominated them mentally and it’s good signs after a good start to the season. We can now recover in the international break and come back stronger...the signs are good."
