Wagstaff secures Gillingham move

Scott Wagstaff has joined Gillingham on a two-year deal.

The utility man soon became a popular figure at Ashton Gate after signing from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2013, scoring on his debut against Bradford City on the opening day of the season.

A regular starter in his maiden campaign, Wagstaff mainly appeared as a substitute in the double-winning 2014/15 season but still contributed important goals in away wins at Coventry City and, ironically, Gillingham.

Opportunities proved harder to come by in the Championship for the man from Maidstone, but his minutes on the pitch increased under the interim charge of John Pemberton and following Lee Johnson’s appointment as City head coach.

After nine goals in 90 appearances, the expiry of his contract left Wagstaff seeking a fresh challenge and the chance to play regularly again, whilst returning to Kent means he can be closer to friends and family.

The club would like to wish him all the best with the move.
