Video: Willie Kirk Reflects On Defeat Against Promotion Rivals Everton

Bristol City Women went down to Everton as they closed the gap at the top of the table with a victory at the Stoke Gifford Stadium.

The complexion of the game changed dramatically in the tenth minute as the referee handed Everton a penalty following a seemingly innocuous challenge in the box.

Everton’s Chloe Kelly made no mistake, confidently dispatching the ball past Caitlin Leach in the Vixens goal.

City controlled possession throughout much of the game without ever threatening the Everton goal. The away side meanwhile looked happy enough to soak up the pressure and hit on the break.

It’s a first defeat in five for the Vixens who will be hoping that this will be a minor blip in some otherwise good form as we get to the business end of the season.

"It is hard to take because our performance was fantastic and the effort was unbelievable," said head coach Willie Kirk.

"There were very few parts of the performance, technically and tactically, that we can be disappointed in aswell.

"We are always looking to create more chance in the box but I thought the girls were fantastic.

"You don’t always get what you deserve over 90 minutes but you will always get what you deserve over a season.

"We are focussing on winning the next four games and winning promotion."

City have the chance to regain their five-point lead when they take on Watford Ladies at home on Saturday, September 10th as the WSL1 promotion race comes down to the wire.
