Video: Wilbraham Impressed By Kodjia

Aaron Wilbraham is impressed with the application shown by new Bristol City recruit Jonathan Kodjia so far. 

The 25-year-old signed from SCO Angers for €3m on Monday and has had two days of training with his new team-mates in Portugal.

City play Sociedade Recreativa Almancilense tomorrow in the club’s final friendly of the pre-season tour.

Kodjia is likely to make his debut alongside Wilbraham, who is pleased with what he has seen so far of the Frenchman.

The former Norwich City man told Bristol City Player HD: “He’s settled in really well and you can tell he’s got a good attitude already which is important.

“Even after two sessions he’s understanding and settling in well.

“He’s fighting to keep hold of the ball and if he lose it, he shows a good reaction. His touch and awareness is good and he’s a good finisher so it’s exciting.”

He added: “Everyone’s been trying to help him settle in because obviously it’s hard as he’s the only foreign player in our team.

“He doesn’t speak a lot of the language but he can understand quite a bit if you speak to him one-on-one.”

Steve Cotterill’s men have already faced two Portuguese opponents with both matches ending in hard-fought draws.

The matches have given the squad an understanding of what to expect tomorrow, and Wilbraham is keen to get a win for momentum going into the new Sky Bet Championship campaign.

“They (Portuguese sides) compete and they want to win,” he said.

“They try and keep the ball and they’re not scared to throw a couple of tackles in.

“We’ve got to try and do that to them and that’s what the manager has been trying to get us to do.

“We’re just trying to concentrate on getting our form going before we start the league campaign.”

He continued: “A lot of boys getting 90 minutes under their belts in both games so it’s only going to benefit us once the season starts.

“We were speaking yesterday and a lot of us feel a lot fitter than we did at this stage last season, so to get those couple of 90 minutes under our belts is obviously going to put us in good stead once the season starts.”
