Derrick Williams anticipates more of the same after a vigorous first day of training in Portugal.
Bristol City flew from Bristol to Faro yesterday evening, and were put through their paces in Guia today.
An inter-squad match and lots of running were on the agenda, and Williams indicated there was one factor that made it extra hard work.
“It was very tough because it’s so hot here,” he told Bristol City Player HD.
“I think a lot of the boys were surprised by how hot it’s actually going to be.
“It's good though. I’m glad we’re doing the runs and getting good times - we’re buzzing really!"
Williams was part of last season’s pre-season tour to Botswana and South Africa.
Africa’s winter season climate was a lot cooler than the summer heat of Southern Portugal, and the Irishman knows the hard work over the next fortnight will reap similar rewards.
He said: "It’s very humid here and harder to breathe.
"It’s going to be tough but it’s all beneficial. When we get back to Bristol we’re going to be flying!
"We have to get our heads down and do it and get ready for the start of the season."
