Steve Cotterill is wary of the difficult task his side face when they play Luton Town in the Capital One Cup first round tonight (7.45pm).
The Hatters have assembled a strong-looking squad under John Still and are one of the favourites for promotion in Sky Bet League Two.
They opened the season with a point at Accrington Stanley, but Cotterill feels they pose a big threat at Kenilworth Road.
“They did very well at home last year,” he told Bristol City Player HD. “They got a lot of points and goals when they were at home.
“They signed some good players in the summer and they’re one of the favourites to win League Two so it’s going to be a difficult game."
City were knocked out at this stage of the competition last season when Oxford United were victorious at Ashton Gate.
Cotterill was able to make changes to his starting XI that night but due to light squad numbers and injuries, the City boss doesn’t have the luxury this evening.
He said: “I probably would change it up because then you give everyone some minutes, and keep people’s fitness up as well as making sure everyone knows they’re still involved.
“Also, if the players can’t do it against a lower ranked team I need to know because they’re probably not going to do it in the first XI.
On the result tomorrow night: “I always want to win. We wanted to win when we played Oxford last year - but we didn’t - so it’s no different really."
