Steve Cotterill praised the response of his players after seeing Bristol City comeback from a goal down to draw against SC Farense in Faro.
Farense, of the Portuguese second tier, went in front against the run of play when Osama Rashid drilled a low shot past Max O’Leary on 57 minutes.
However, a familiar sight for City fans saw Aden Flint rise highest to power home Luke Freeman’s corner to equalise.
Cotterill’s men stepped up a gear following Rashid’s opener, a trait City’s manager was pleased with.
“It was a really good test for us,” he told Bristol City Player HD.
“I know they wanted to play a counter-attacking game, which is where we got caught after dominating possession.
“We get angry when we’re getting beat which is good. We upped the tempo a little bit because we didn’t want to get beat.
“There was a reaction from them about 70 minutes onwards and to get that after those minutes on the clock when they’ve already put a good session in is pleasing.”
He added: “We don’t go behind very often but when we do we’ve always shown a good reaction.
“That will always show a good team spirit.’
Cotterill’s squad have been in Portugal for 6 days and have a further two matches to play on tour.
Another week of hard graft is in store before the players return to Bristol, and City’s boss is delighted with their efforts so far.
He said: “The boys have trained really hard in difficult temperatures and I’m really pleased with them.
“All this is a fitness exercise – that is why we’re here.
“We’re trying to get minutes under player’s belts and we’ve managed to do that which is really good so we’re very happy.”
