Vacancy: Physical Performance Internship with Bristol City Women

Bristol City Women seek a Physical Performance Intern for the 2019/20 FA Women's Super League campaign.

The work placement opportunity is for a forward-thinking individual who is looking to gain experience working with elite female footballers.

The student will be based at SGS Wise Campus in Bristol (BS34 8LP). The placement will be supervised by 1st Team Physical Performance Coach, Chris Difford. 

The key role of the placement student is to assist with Sports Science/Strength & Conditioning with the Bristol City Women’s 1st Team.

The position will commence 22nd of July 2019 and end in May 2020.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the delivery of Physical Performance programs for all 1st Team players.
  • Ensuring the Physical Performances services are consistently operating at best-practice standards.
  • To assist all Sports Science testing, data collection and analysis within the 1st Team including:
  • Daily data collection, analysis and reporting of key GPS metrics.
  • Monitoring external and internal training load through the use of GPS, heart rate and session RPE data collection.
  • Monitoring of gym programmes and provide appropriate interventions where necessary.
  • Collection and analysis of daily condition monitors (wellness, NMF) and provide appropriate interventions where necessary.
  • Execution of physical attribute testing procedures, data collation and analysis, including player reviews and relevant intervention prescriptions
  • Working closely with Physical Performance Coach in the design and implementation of individual athletic development programmes.
  • Assisting the Physical Performance Coach and Sports Therapist in the design, planning and implementation of return-to-play, pre-habilitation, rehabilitation and strength & conditioning programmes.
  • Player education regarding nutrition, hydration and recovery.
  • Support department staff in maintaining Physical Performance equipment and consumables.
  • Conduct regular research into areas of contemporary sport and exercise science and determine relevant applications, utilizing your University research project assignments where possible.
  • Maintaining professional standards of the Physical Performance department at all times.

Bristol City Women’s football club would welcome applications from individuals who have the following qualifications, interests or experiences:

  • Predicted/completed first or upper second class (or equivalent) degree in a relevant subject area (e.g. Sport & Exercise Science / Strength and Conditioning).
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate a knowledge of, and experience in football.
  • High levels of IT skill particularly in the use of excel (or relevant data analysis software), word processing and presentation software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working with female athletes.
  • Available weekdays and weekends.
  • Ability to travel independently.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Hours of work to be mutually agreed between both parties.
