Vacancy: Academy strength and conditioning coach

Bristol City Academy is recruiting a strength and conditioning coach to join their expanding sports science department.  

The successful candidate will be required to develop players across all phases in an Academy environment. 


  • Lead design, planning and delivery of Under-9 to Under-18 strength and conditioning programmes
  • Assist the lead sports scientist with all testing data collection and analysis
  • Help implement the physiological training games programme, monitoring internal/external training load through the use of GPS, heart rate and session RPE data
  • Assist the Academy medical staff and lead sports scientist in the design, planning and implementation of return-to-play, pre-habilitation/rehabilitation programmes
  • Contribute to the delivery of performance education sessions to all Academy players, parents and relevant staff
  • Ensure Academy strength and conditioning services are consistently operating at best-practice standards
  • Support the head of sports science with all other relevant departmental duties
  • Support department staff in maintaining sports science/strength and conditioning equipment and consumables
  • Contribute to Academy and departmental continuous professional development (CPD) whilst conducting regular research into areas of contemporary sport and exercise science


  • Hold at least a BSc in Strength and Conditioning (or another relevant discipline) from a recognised university
  • Hold a current basic First Aid for Sport Qualification (or an equivalent or higher qualification)
  • Previous experience within an Academy environment involved in the EPPP
  • Previous experience of long-term athlete development
  • UKSCA/NSCA CSCS qualification (or ability to work towards in the next 12 months)

Full-time hours
Salary: £18,000 to £21,000 per annum
