City Under-23s final Premier League Cup Group F fixture ended with a disappointing 8-1 reverse to table-topping Derby County at Loughborough University.
The Robins struggled against a more experienced Rams side and were 5-0 down at the break.
An improved second half saw City more aggressive in the tackle area and Sam Bell scored a 70th-minute consolation after Ryley Towler’s corner was headed back across goal by Harvey Smith.
The Under-23s are back in action in the Professional Development League against Nottingham Forest on Monday, March 4that Ashton Gate (7pm).
