Bristol City Community Trust Girls Futsal teams put in a stunning performance to win the EFL Futsal League and conquer St Georges Park, the home of the England football team.
The girls BCCT ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams both qualified from the EFL Trust Ladies National League, finishing fourth and first respectively, on a dramatic last day of the season with results needing to go both teams’ way.
The ‘A’ team had two tough fixtures against Cardiff City and Southampton, knowing only two wins would be enough to qualify on goal difference and enable the ‘B’ team to win the league by a point.
After breezing to a 7-1 victory over Cardiff City, the ‘A’ team put five goals past a stunned Southampton to ensure the ‘B’ team would win the league for the first time in the Trust’s Girls Futsal Programme history.
The following week, the ‘A’ & ‘B’ teams were in dominant form once again for the National finals.
The A team thrashed the University of Gloucestershire Women’s Futsal team 9-3 in the Ladies Shield Final, thanks to goals from Lauren Phillips (3), Courtney Adams (2), Georgia Devonald (2), Rhianna Ben-Carew and Ella Thresher.
Meanwhile, the 'B' team displayed a very high tempo and a high level of ability when they faced Southampton. Tianna Bishop gave them the lead, after rolling the ball around her defender, before poking the ball into the top corner.
They weren't without chances to extend that lead but Southampton equalised inside the final minute. The game was decided on penalties and unfortunately Southampton edged the contest, winning 3-2 in the shootout.
It capped off an excellent year for Trust's Education Department Futsal girls squad, who have not only excelled practically and made club history, but have all had a great academic year.
The Year One scholars have all finished their first year on track to reach or exceed their target grade ad the Year Two scholars have now finished the programme with 100 per cent pass records and exceeded their target grades by receiving three D*D*D*.
