Bristol City Community Trust visited the House of Commons on Monday to be presented with their Checkatrade South West Community Club of the Year award.
Following their exceptional work in the past 12 months, the club’s official charity were joined by five other EFL regional winners in the capital to celebrate the inspirational delivery in their respective communities.
City will now be put forward alongside Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth and Derby County for the 2018 Checkatrade Community Club of the Year Award, which will be announced at the EFL Awards on Sunday, April 15th.
The Community Trust impressed the judges with their Youth Council, a new group of young people that deliver practical programmes to create positive social change in their local communities.
The group has so far been involved in the Bristol clean up, hosted a girls football event, developed and delivered an anti-poverty free football camp, held a free disability holiday camp, a programme to help combat anti-social behaviour, developed a Mumball session and a weekly youth disability workshop.
The Trust accompanied three members of the Youth Council to the House of Commons, where the group were presented with the award by EFL Chairman Ian Lenagan, Sports Minister Tracey Crouch and host Colin Murray.
“It was a fantastic day and something we will never forget,” said Community Trust chief executive officer Dan White.
“To be shortlisted as one of the top five Community Trust’s in the country and be named the South West Community Club of the Year is a true honour and truly deserving for Youth Moves’ invaluable delivery.
“Our Youth Council has been a fantastic group to work with and their innovative projects have received the support they deserve.
“They make a genuine impact in our local community and I have no doubt that they will continue to reach a wider audience in the coming months.”
