Bristol City Community Trust were represented by Hanham High School in the Kinder+ SPORT Football League Girls cup at Exeter University, last Thursday.
The tournament comprises of a six-a-side competition for under-13 girls, culminating in a grand final prior to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium.
The girls played well throughout the day finishing fourth in the standings after winning five out of their eight matches against other Football League Trusts.
Exeter City, Newport County, Plymouth Argyle and Yeovil Town all succumbed to defeat whilst Bournemouth and Cardiff City were the only teams to win against the young Robins.
A goalless draw against Swindon Town finished proceedings and the team received plenty of positive feedback regarding their play and ability, with a tournament official commenting “Bristol City were the best team we have seen play here.”
Working with and engaging communities is at the heart of the work carried out by all Football League clubs and this competition enables the opportunities for BCCT to inspire females in Bristol to play and enjoy football.
City Community Trust Director Amy Kington said: “I understand first hand the challenges girls face when taking part in organised sport.
“I am therefore delighted that Hanham High School entered a team in our competition and, due to their success, have had an opportunity to represent the Trust and Football Club in a regional completion.
“I hope this positive experience inspires them to continue playing sport.”
