Aden Flint has opened up about the “stressful” last few months in his career, but he insists: “It’s time to look forward with Bristol City now.”
The 28-year-old marked his first league start of the season with an 84th-minute winner at Reading on Saturday, firing home from Jamie Paterson’s knock down.
Previously Flint’s opportunities to play had been restricted due to ongoing speculation throughout the transfer window linking him with a move away from Ashton Gate.
But his heroic moment in Berkshire – which saw City record a first win at the Madejski Stadium since 2009 – feels like a landmark moment for Flint.
Speaking to BCTV after the final whistle, Flint opened up about a difficult period in his career.
He told the club’s TV channel: “It’s been a stressful few months with everything being up in the air.
“There has been a lot of interest, which is flattering. But I’ve just got my head down and worked hard.
“Some other people might have chosen not to speak to me, but the gaffer has been great throughout, keeping me informed of what was going on.
“I’ve done my extras when I haven’t been involved to keep my fitness up just in case I was needed. I want to be out there playing like any player, but it was still nice seeing the boys doing well when you are sat at home.
“We’ve started the season really well, not just as individuals but the team has been flying. It’s nice to come back into the team, get the win and the vital goal as well.”
WHAT HE SAID
"The transfer window is closed, let’s put that to bed. I’m a Bristol City and it’s time to focus on the season ahead and helping the team get results.”
He added: “The fans were singing my name again, which was nice.
“You could understand if that wasn’t the case after everything that has been going on over the last couple of months.
“I’m always looking forward. The transfer window is closed, let’s put that to bed. I’m a Bristol City and it’s time to focus on the season ahead and helping the team get results.”
