Tickets Go Back On Sale For Wigan

We are pleased to announce that our contractors, McLaughlin & Harvey have confirmed the new West Stand lower tier will be open for Bristol City’s opening Sky Bet Championship game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, August 6th.

Martin Griffiths, chairman of Bristol Sport, said: “We always felt this would go down to the wire. Over the last 14 months since the old Williams Stand was demolished the huge new West Stand has taken shape. In all honesty we had hoped to use the Portsmouth friendly as our test event and be fully ready for Wigan. In the end we will have to settle for the Wigan game being our test event this Saturday. As such the lower tier of the West Stand will be at a restricted capacity and only available to those who have existing tickets in that stand.

“Naturally while we always hoped the West Stand would be fully open for the first competitive match of the 2016/17 season we had to plan for a worst case scenario of having to reallocate those fans should the Safety Advisory Group withhold the safety certificate for the stand.

“Now we are in the positive position of being able to go back on sale with those contingency seats that were kept free in the South, Dolman and Atyeo Stands.”

Tickets will go back on sale online at 5pm today (Wednesday) and on the phone from 9am Thursday morning. Ticket collections will be from 10am on Saturday from the new ticket office located in the Winterstoke Road car park.

Whilst no concessions will be available inside the West Stand there will be a number of food and drink outlets placed along the new pedestrianised way alongside the newly landscaped brook .

To start the season with a festival feel there will also be a fans village in operation outside the Sports Bar & Grill.

Hospitality guests will all be allocated dining in the Heineken Restaurant and the Sports Bar & Grill, which will be closed to general admission.

Griffiths added: “We are in touching distance of the finishing line. I think back to when this all began with nothing more than a concept drawing for a new Ashton Gate just over three years ago. We have come a long way since then and this is a testimony to all the staff at Ashton Gate involved with the project and those having to operate in what has been a very challenging environment. I am also extremely grateful to the fans who have been understanding and continued to show their commitment during this time of great change.

“Once open we will continue to enhance the new West Stand from its initial design as we did with both the South and Dolman stands during 2015/16.”
