Carla Humphrey can’t wait to get stuck into City’s match against Chelsea in the Barclays FAWSL this afternoon.
The midfielder and her teammates head into the league encounter off the back of their 3-0 FA Continental Cup win over London Bees.
Tanya Oxtoby’s side are now aiming to use that first win of the season as a springboard, with attentions now turning back to the league and the visit of Chelsea to SGS this afternoon (3PM KO).
“Three-nil at the weekend, getting a goal and a good team performance is great, especially going into this weekend against Chelsea,” Humphrey said.
“The team are really buzzing from it. We had some really good passages of play and that’s what we want to bring into this weekend. When we’ve got the ball we want to be composed but it was a good performance.
“We know there are areas to build on and improve of course but we’ve looked back and reflected on it and that’s what we want to bring this week.”
The camp are in high spirits after last Sunday’s cup win, something which brings added confidence and belief to a young squad who thrive off the big occasions.
And with Chelsea in town, Humphrey says City can lay down a strong message.
Humphrey continued: “As a young group we are still learning and developing together, as a group we have only been together a few weeks but each week has got better.
“The mood in training has been great this week, especially off the back of a good performance and a win. Looking ahead to Chelsea it is exciting, these are the game you want to be playing in and want to perform in.
“We hope to exceed expectations, go out there and put in a good performance and see what happens. We want to be hard to beat and that’s the thought process going into this weekend.”
