That Sums Up Our Season - Cotterill

Steve Cotterill admitted the way things panned out for his team in defeat to Fulham at Ashton Gate was indicative of Bristol City’s season so far.

The Cottagers raced into a 4-0 lead inside 36 minutes courtesy of a brace for Moussa Dembele and further goals from Ross McCormack, with a stunning free kick, and Ryan Tunnicliffe’s clever lob.

Cotterill conceded the quality of Fulham’s finishing was the difference in a game in which City had 15 attempts to the visitors’ ten, yet ended up falling to a 4-1 defeat after Jonathan Kodjia’s consolation goal deep into stoppage time.

“The 90 minutes today probably sums up the season to date a little bit,” the manager told Bristol City Player HD.

“We’ve come up against a couple of teams who have got a couple of difference makers in there, and when they get a chance they score.

“We probably have to have too many chances to score, and that always makes it difficult.

“It’s very difficult to come back from four goals down – we’ve made a couple of mistakes in those four and the disappointing thing is we work on those things in training every week.

“We don’t get burnt with those things very often but we have been burnt with them today, and it’s made things very, very difficult for us.

“Even though we were 2-0 down, for the first 30 minutes we were the better team.

“But those goals affect the game and they affect mindsets. Even at that point we’re still right in the game, but the third goal kills us.

“What we would’ve liked to have done is to get a couple of goals early in the second half, because it would’ve been interesting to see what would’ve happened. But we couldn’t do that. It was too much of a mountain to climb.”
