Terry Cooper: 1944-2021

Bristol City is devastated to learn of the passing of former player and manager Terry Cooper.

Cooper played for the club over two spells between 1978-1980 and 1982-1984, before the former England and Leeds United full-back ended his playing career at Ashton Gate. He went on to manage the Robins during its fight back from near extinction in 1982.

Four years later he led his City team to Wembley, where Cooper oversaw a Freight Rover Trophy win over Bolton.

He left the club in 1988, continuing his managerial career at Exeter City and Birmingham City. He had previously managed at Bristol Rovers prior to his appointment at City.

As a player, Cooper also represented Bristol Rovers, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Doncaster Rovers.

Our thoughts are with Terry’s family and friends at this difficult time.
