Tommy Rowe explained how the team dug deep to ensure they saw out a third consecutive win in the Sky Bet Championship.
Rowe scored to put City into the lead against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday (September 27th) before Jamie Paterson scored a second goal in stoppage time.
The strikes came after a difficult first half, which saw City struggle to create in the final third, while the Owls threatened Dan Bentley’s goal.
But the Robins rallied after the break and eventually got the goals they deserved to ensure a 100% start to their league campaign and go joint top of the Championship table.
“It was a hard-fought battle and we knew that despite their plight at the minute they were going to be tough,” Rowe told Robins TV pitchside, shortly after the full-time whistle.
“In the first half we just had to stay with it. We knew throughout the game we'd get chances, we forced it a bit in the second half but we played our game and we knew it would come through, whoever got the goal, in the end.
“The important bit at the end was locking it out and we wanted the clean sheet. We build on clean sheets, especially at home, and I’m delighted we got that in the end. Regardless of the second goal we knew we’d keep the clean sheet. It was tough but we got there in the end.
“I was dead on my feet after about 80 minutes but the lads rallied around me, got me going and that shows the spirit of this team. At times we will be depleted out there, but to the best of our ability we need to stick in as a unit and get performances like that.”
City return to league action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (October 3rd, 3pm KO), with the match exclusively available to stream on Robins TV.
