Matty Taylor will miss City’s season opener with Barnsley due to his ongoing groin problem.
The striker has missed all of pre-season with the groin complaint, which has now required two injections to fix.
However, Milan Djuric – who has been suffering from the same injury – is edging closer to a return.
Head coach Lee Johnson told BCTV: “Matty is definitely out, which is disappointing because he’s had a bit of a setback on his groin.
“He’s seen a specialist and had another injection on it to try and cure the problem, so we’ll have to see how it settles down.
“We could throw Milan in, but we’ll have to see. He’d definitely give us an option. Is he 90-minute fit? No. Is he 20-minute fit? Maybe.
“Given his size and what he brings to the team, it could be something we choose to do.”
Meanwhile, Nathan Baker will serve a one-match suspension following his red card for Aston Villa on the final day of last season.
Despite being reduced to 12 men in the closing stages of the match, England U20 held on to beat France 29-20 in round two of the Six Nations Summer Series.
