Dean Holden has challenged the players to relish the opportunity of testing themselves against Premier League opposition tonight (7.45pm).
City visit Watford in the second round of the Carabao Cup this evening, and a number of changes are expected from the visitors.
Holden wants those players coming into the team to take the opportunity afforded to them in a top-flight arena.
Speaking on BCTV, Holden said: “We made five changes in the first round against Plymouth and produced a fantastic display.
“We’ve got a very good squad and we’ve got people vying for places. Obviously we’re in a period when we’ve got a lot of games in a short period of time and another big game coming up against Villa.
“The gaffer will pick the team that he feels can win the game. We’re under no illusions, it’s a fantastic challenge for us.
“I’m sure the players who come into the team will relish the opportunity of facing Premier League opposition.
“They’ll want to grab the shirt and keep the shirt.”
“I’m sure the players who come into the team will relish the opportunity of facing Premier League opposition."
Cauley Woodrow is cup-tied for the Carabao Cup encounter, while Milan Djuric is sidelined after groin surgery.
Matty Taylor is now back in training, while Aden Flint returns to the squad after a four-game absence.
Holden confirmed: “Flinty is very much a Bristol City player and he’s in the squad tomorrow.”
