'Start of a new beginning' - Oxtoby

Bristol City Women’s manager Tanya Oxtoby spoke of her excitement as the Robins gear up for their first season at their new home ground, Twerton Park.

After nine years at the Stoke Gifford Stadium, City Women have a new home in Twerton Park ahead of the 2020/2021 season, and the move to the new stadium is something that Oxtoby and her squad are looking forward too.

“It’s pretty exciting to come to a stadium like this and be able to start the season in style,” said Oxtoby.

“The players and staff are really looking forward to it. We’ve had a great time at the SGS and had some wonderful memories, but it’s the start of a new beginning now.

“Coming to Bath we’re hoping to attract an increased audience and fanbase if we can, so we’ve got to put the performances in to do that. Coming to a stadium like this we’re hoping to get some great home games in and when the fans are allowed back to get this place rocking.

“You go back to the women’s game and how much it’s growing, we need to make sure were growing with it so this is one of those steps in the right direction which is fantastic, there’s many more for us to take but were in a great position now.

“I know there’s been some positive feedback regarding the ground once it was released so we’re really looking forward to getting here and making it our home and hopefully, turning our home record around a little bit.”

“It’s a world-class facility, for us to be able to play there and really make that our second home if you like, it’s fantastic. We’re looking forward to it when it comes around and hopefully, we can put on a performance in the stadium that will entertain the crowd and they will want to come back.”

Oxtoby once again spoke highly of her squad ahead of their season opener at Twerton Park against Everton, and that preparations for the clash are well underway.

“I think we’ve done really well with our recruitment this season in the off season, so you look at the resources we’ve got compared to other teams and I think we’ve done exceptionally well with what we’ve got to work with.

“The girls fit the philosophy in what we’re trying to do on and off the pitch and we’re really looking forward to them now putting that on display here at the new home.”

“They’ve been fantastic, the shape they came back in was probably more than we expected so that’s a massive credit to them and their professionalism. They’ve looked sharp, we’ve got a lot of work to do, I think every team does. We had our first pre-season friendly on the weekend which was great, just to get some minutes in the legs so the girls are looking great.

“We’re building towards the start of the season, where we're going to be in terms of our performances, no one knows. We’re just going to have to go out there and put in 100% and make sure that we are competitive, but for us it's about building, and we’ve got a good foundation from pre-season to do that.”

The Robins will kick-off the new season at their new home on Sunday, 6th September when they take on Everton Women at Twerton Park at 2pm.
