Squad supports Foundation's free football and food camps

City’s players were out and about this week to support the Robins Foundation's free summer camps.

Run in partnership with Bristol City Council and Fareshare South West, the Foundation provides free summer holiday camps in areas of deprivation in Bristol for young people on free school meals.

The camps offer young people the opportunity to play football and guarantees a free meal every day they attend the camp.

Additional funding received from Bristol Council has allowed the Foundation to set up more camps in five different locations - City Academy/Evergreen Primary, Filwood Fields, Hareclive Primary, New Oak Primary and Connaught Primary.

And Robins players were able to see the programme for themselves with Rob Atkinson, Tyreeq Bakinson, Jay Dasilva, Han-Noah Massengo, Kasey Palmer, Cameron Pring and Nahki Wells visiting the camps.

The camps help support families who rely on free school meals throughout the summer holidays and offer a safe space for children to come and channel their energy into positive activities.

Dasilva said: “It was great to visit the summer camp. We had great fun with the young people – there’s a few tidy players there! To see the fantastic work the Foundation does laying on free football and meals is really inspiring.”

All food is freshly prepared in the morning by Chef Andy and a team of volunteers with the food then dropped to each camp every before lunchtime.

This summer the Foundation has provided 8,120 meals with additional food hampers supplied to families equivalent to 2,400 days worth of food.

Staff have delivered a total of 580 hours of football activity while the club’s Academy have donated 50 pairs of boots and 200 kits for the young people attending the camps.

SUPPORTING ROBINS EDUCATION

Meanwhile, Matty James and Andy King supported the Foundation’s Robins Education programme induction at Imperial Sports Ground.

The pair met 80 new students on their first week on the programme and got involved in the football session followed by a Q&A, as well as signing merchandise and having photographs taken.

The Foundation’s BTEC Sport programme once again saw fantastic results in the 2020/21 academic year with 84% of students achieving higher than their target grade and 56% moving into higher education.

There are still spaces for programmes starting September 2021 and September 2022.
