Squad latest ahead of Middlesbrough trip

Nigel Pearson offers an update on Antoine Semenyo, Callum O’Dowda and Joe Williams.

Williams was forced off against Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday night with a tight thigh, but he is not expected to be long-term absentee.

It was a frustrating moment for the midfielder, who was making his first start of the season after coming off the bench against Blackpool four days earlier.

“It will be probably keep him out for a week, so nothing major,” Pearson said. “He’s frustrated because he’s had a difficult time since he joined us. Sometimes he has a tendency to push himself too much, so we have to try and help manage him back to full fitness.

“I felt for him the other night. He’s very emotional about having to come off but it’s nothing serious…he’ll be okay.”

Semenyo returned to training this week and continues to get back to full fitness.

Callum O'Dowda's inclusion against Middlesbrough will be a marginal decision

Pearson explained: “When he’ll be in contention I’m not sure, but he’ll need a couple of weeks. His strength and power is very much there but we need to get him back into a position where he’s available for us.

“It’s more important the players get back to stay back and that’s not always straight forward. We have to protect him and make sure it’s safe for him to be back on the field of play.”

Regarding O’Dowda, who picked up a knock against Blackpool last Saturday, Pearson said it will be “touch and go but it’s nothing serious” adding “we don’t want to put him at risk if it’s a marginal decision.”
