Spanish heat test ideal warm-up – O'Dowda

Callum O'Dowda believes City’s tour is the ideal heat test ahead of the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season.

The Republic of Ireland international marked his first pre-season appearance with a goal against Shrewsbury Town at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

And as the temperature soared into the high 20s, Lee Johnson’s players were put through their paces at the Marbella Football Centre ahead of tomorrow night’s (July 17th) game with Real Balopédica Linense at Estadio Municipal de La Línea, which is followed up by Rayo Vallecano on Saturday (July 24th).

Speaking exclusively to BCTV, O’Dowda said: "The temperature is still quite high but we’ve trained a bit later in the day today so it’s not too bad.

"We have a couple of games out here so it’s going to be tough physically and mentally but it’s what you need going into the season.

"You do look forward to pre-season but in a way you are also dreading it because it’s tough and the fitness elements aren’t that nice.

"It is different playing out here. I noticed it when I was younger going away on international duty playing against different countries, the styles of play differ but it’ll be good to play against someone new."

Marley Watkins, Jack Hunt, Adam Webster, Andreas Weimann and Hakeeb Adelakun, City’s five summer recruits, have all travelled to the Spanish resort and the 22-year-old was quick to praise his new teammates.

"No-one has kicked them out of camp yet!“ joked O’Dowda. "All the boys have been really good.

"You don’t know them but you know of them from having played against them so it’s easy to chat and I hope we have all been welcoming."
