Korey Smith is beginning his road to recovery having undergone foot surgery.
Smith sustained the injury in last month's home match with Reading – just three games into his comeback from a knee complaint that had kept him on the sidelines since August - and he is set for another lengthy spell away from competitive action.
“Unfortunately it’s not good news for Korey,” said Head Coach Lee Johnson. “We’ve lost him for five or six months. He’s had to have a plate in his foot to bind the metatarsals together and pull the ligaments tight.
“It’s a tough one to take because it’s not related at all to the previous injury. It was a unique, freak accident and one he doesn’t deserve - one that we don’t as a football club either, given how important he is and what key attributes he has got.
"We wish him all the best for his recovery and look forward to getting him back.”
Max Malins says he is ready and raring to go ahead of a potential return to action against Newcastle Falcons on Saturday (5pm KO, live on BT Sport 3 HD).
