Smith recognises 12th-man effect

Midfielder Korey Smith heaped praise on the near 2-000 travelling supporters who roared City to a 1-0 win against Reading on Tuesday evening.

The Robins had to thwart Reading’s attacks late on but rode the storm to record the win and clean sheet off the back off Jamie Paterson’s second-half strike.

And Smith described the influential impact of the backing at the Madejski Stadium.

“The crowd was like another defender for us, it was a real team effort with people blocking the ball off the line,” Smith said.

“It was a really good performance, we’re now four wins out of five, another clean sheet and it was a great day.

“When you’re trying to block the ball and they are roaring, it gives you the boost to block the next one. We always travel well here, it’s not too far and on a personal level I am loving playing in front of them again.

“We appreciate their support so thank you to them for that today. I hope they enjoyed their night.”

He added: “It was a brilliant performance. First half we played some really good football, the second half we had some good chances and then the defending in the final 10 minutes was amazing. You saw the centre-backs, the defenders, Famara (Diédhiou) running all the way back for the team.”
