Bristol City have agreed the permanent signing of Wrexham youngster Jonny Smith for an undisclosed fee.
The 18-year-old wide man has agreed terms on a two-year contract, with a year option, due to take effect from June 9th.
Smith, who made two appearances for the Wrexham first team in 2016, will join the club’s development group and play Under-21 football in 2016/17.
Head coach Lee Johnson told bcfc.co.uk: “Jonny is an interesting one because he’s someone with a great deal of potential and he’s already been exposed to men’s football and coped well.
“He’s quick, bright and can play in a number of positions; on either wing or in an attacking role. He’s a hungry young man, which is just the kind of character we want to recruit.
“He’ll join our development group and just like Zak (Vyner), Max (O’Leary) and George (Dowling), he’ll be pushing to force his way towards the first team for opportunities.”
A highly-rated Englishman who also qualifies to play for Republic of Ireland, Smith is predominantly a winger who has risen through the Wrexham Academy since the age of 12.
He has already been dubbed “Johnny Bale” by Wrexham coach Joey Jones due to his wicked left foot, just like Wales and Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale.
