Smith completes Burton Albion switch

Bristol City wishes Jonny Smith all the best as the midfielder competes a permanent move to Burton Albion.

The winger was recalled from his loan spell at Swindon Town to make the move to the Brewers, with the Robins receiving an undisclosed fee as part of the deal.

Winger Smith arrived in BS3 from Wrexham as an 18-year-old in 2016, and he continued his development through the club’s resources and loan spells across the National League, League Two and most recently in League One.

He spent time at Cheltenham Town, AFC Fylde, Tranmere Rovers, Oldham Athletic and most recently with Swindon Town in the third tier.

In 2018 Smith took AFC Fylde to the National League play-off final, while a year later he helped Tranmere Rovers win promotion from League Two.

He returned his best goalscoring form (11) while on loan with Oldham during the 2019/20 campaign and after spending the first half of the current season in League One with Swindon, Smith is now set to help division rivals Albion.
