Six players set for international duty next week

City will have a number of players on duty for their countries during the forthcoming international break.

Bailey Wright, Callum O’Dowda and Hordur Magnusson all have important FIFA World Cup qualifiers coming up.

Wright will be jetting off after Saturday’s clash with Ipswich Town to link up with the Australia squad for a key doubleheader with Syria.

They face Syria in Malaysia on Thursday, October 5th, before the second leg in Sydney on Tuesday. October 10th. Crucially for City, the defender is only due back in England 24 hours before City’s next match, at home to Burton Albion on Friday, October 13th.

The winner over two legs will then face a final doubleheader qualifier against the fourth placed team from the CONCACAF group, which is likely to be one of either Panama, USA or Honduras.

O’Dowda’s Ireland face Moldova in Dublin on Friday, October 6th, before a huge make-or-break clash with Wales in Cardiff three days later.

Magnusson’s Iceland face a tough trip to Turkey on October 6th, before a home game with Kosovo on October 9th. Two victories could be enough to book their place in Russia next summer, but it would – at least – guarantee a play-off spot.

Meanwhile, Gustav Engvall (Sweden Under-21s), Academy graduate Lloyd Kelly (England Under-20s) and West Brom loanee Jonathan Leko (England Under-19s) have both been called up at youth level.

Engvall's Swedes will face Belgium away (October 6th) and Malta at home (October 10th).

Kelly could add to his two Under-20 caps against Italy in Gorgonzola (October 6th), before Czech Republic visit St George's Park (October 10th).

Meanwhile, Leko's Under-19s have two away games to play, taking on Czech Republic (October 6th) and Slovakia (October 9th).
