Simpson surprises fans for International Day of People with Disabilities

City defender Danny Simpson was the guest for a Robins Foundation Q & A for our Ability Champions Council group.

The session was set up as a thank you for the commitment and support over the last eight months by the group, which consists of participants, parents and carers who attend our weekly pan disability youth and adult football sessions.

The group was created to give our participants a chance to express their views on the sessions we provide, what they enjoy and what they feel needs improving or added to the service we offer.

Since April 2020 the group has met via zoom once a month to discuss many topics and what they have provided us and contributed has been invaluable to the improvement of our pan disability football sessions to our service users.

This year’s International Day of People with Disabilities (idpwd.org) is highlighting the challenges, barriers and opportunities for people who live with disabilities in the context of a global pandemic.

As part of our disability football project, we try to ensure that the voice of the children, young people and adults involved in the project has multiple ways to be heard and that we are able to effectively listen to what we are being told. The sessions we put on are for the people that attend and are catered for their needs and interests, so we wanted to give our participants a voice in how the project is run and developed and that they see the club as their place where they belong.

We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to the members of our Ability Champions Council.

Thank you for your feedback, openness, honesty, and ideas that is helping shape and improve our disability project.
