Simpson reunited with Pearson

Danny Simpson and Nigel Pearson are reunited after Simpson put pen to paper to become the City manager’s first signing.

The pair worked together at Leicester City during the 2014/15 season in the Premier League.

Right-back Simpson has signed with the Robins until the end of the season and he explained how the chance to work with Pearson influenced his decision to join the club.

Simpson said: “Nigel has been massive. He signed me for Leicester and he influenced me both as a player and as a man as well. I learnt a lot about his values, how he speaks and treats people. He treats everyone the same and I walked into a building where he had created a good spirit, a good family where everyone was together.

“I learnt a lot from him that year and we always kept in touch. It was the same coming here to Bristol City so it’s good to be reunited with him and hopefully I can do well.

“We spoke on the phone, he told me to come down and see what I think. It’s a great opportunity and the club is in a good place, so I think with the lads and the new training ground coming it’s all good from the outside looking in. It’s a no-brainer to join!”

As well as Pearson, Simpson will link up with Henri Lansbury, Tommy Rowe and Adrian Mariappa, who he knows from across the football circuit.

Simpson has immediately taken to his new surroundings but, with some friendly faces he knows well, Simpson might not need a long settling-in period.

He said: “As soon as I walked through the door it was a good environment. The lads have been class, they’ve welcomed me, I’m happy to be here and I can’t wait to get going. Mapps has showed me around, introduced me and the lads have been class in welcoming me in.”

Simpson arrives in BS3 as a free agent, after leaving Huddersfield Town at the end of last season. Since his departure with the Terriers, Simpson has spent time back with the Foxes as he worked on his fitness, adding: “I wanted to get back into football, I’ve missed it.”
