Seven players sign for Bristol City Women FC

Bristol City Women FC can confirm seven players have signed for the 2018/2019 FA Women’s Super League season.

Sophie Baggaley, who was on loan last season makes her move to Bristol a permanent one, joining from Women’s Super League opponents, Birmingham Ladies FC.

Danique Kerkdijk, Loren Dykes, Frankie Brown, Flo Allen, Poppy Wilson and Carla Humphreys have all re-signed, meaning they will continue to play their football at the Stoke Gifford Stadium.

“I’m really excited to secure these players for another year, as they have been excellent for the club so far, and they are so important to what we are looking to build for this season.”

“It’s important to have players who enhance your group on and off the pitch, and these girls have tremendous qualities we want at Bristol, so we are really happy they have decided to stay.”, said newly appointed head coach, Tanya Oxtoby.

The signings offer a great mix of experience and youth for the Vixens with all players having played on the international stage at varying levels.

Loren Dykes, Frankie Brown and Danique Kerkdijk bring a wealth of experience to the Vixens defence with a combined total of 139 international appearances for Wales, Scotland and the Netherlands respectively.

New signing, Baggaley spoke of her delight at making her move permanent, “I am very pleased to say that I will be signing for the Vixens after my loan spell at the club.”

“Last season showed me what playing for Bristol really meant - it was a tight knit group full of good people, focussed on becoming the best footballers we could be and it’s a pleasure to be a part of that for another year.”

Both, Flo Allen and Poppy Wilson have international representation having been selected for England at Under 19 level, whilst Sophie Baggaley and Carla Humphreys have been a part of the Under 23 squad.

“I’m really excited, this is where I want to be. I learnt a lot from being here last year and this club has helped my progression.”

“It’s a lovely place to be and such a great environment, so I definitely feel it’s the right place for me to be.”, said Carla Humphrey.

Academy product, Poppy Wilson, who has been with the Vixens for five years spoke of her excitement at re-signing.

“I’m really happy to have signed on for the 2018/2019 season. I’m really excited to work with Tanya and see how far I can develop this season.”

“I’m proud to be a Vixen and I can’t wait to see what the new season brings.”
