Semenyo working on fine details

Antoine Semenyo has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the City first team and is working hard to improve his game further.

Today's 21st-birthday boy says the 2020/21 campaign has fared better for him than expected, but as a forward he is keen to add the goals to his game as he eyes a successful second half of the season.

He has scored twice since September, both of those goals coming in the Carabao Cup, and combined with his Sky Bet Championship appearances, Semenyo has played 1,416 minutes for the Robins, leading the way with six assists in all competitions.

Semenyo told Robins TV: “I’d say it’s gone a lot better than I thought it would have but I have to keep pushing, keep practicing and progressing. I have the team on my shoulders, they’re backing me up so I have to keep pushing.”

Experienced Assistant Head Coaches Keith Downing and Paul Simpson have been working alongside Semenyo to improve his game, particularly when it comes the final third and thanks to their expertise and guidance, Semenyo believes he will get back to scoring ways.

He said: “It’s coming, it’s coming! I need a bit more composure but it’s the little details and hopefully that goal will go in.

“They’ve showed me lots of clips on different positions I’ve struck from where I can assess if I’m leaning back or putting too much power on a shot. They’re helping me a lot so when it nestles in the back of the net I will go to them and thank them!”

Semenyo and City’s 2021 kicks off against Portsmouth in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round this Sunday (January 10th, 1.30pm KO).

“Everyone is buzzing to get back,” he said, following the postponed Brentford clash. “Every year it (FA Cup) comes round and I’m buzzing for it, buzzing for the team so hopefully we can back it up with a win on Sunday.”
